Abstract : Nowadays the problem related to the availability of feasible materials arouse repeatedly during road constructions. This analysis has led to approaches of improving the performances of usable materials in layer of pavement.
The lithostabilisation is one of these techniques and it consists in improving the floor load capacity of slimy sands used in foundation layer in Djamena (Chad) by adding a well determined quantity of crushed basalts. The ascertainment of this optimal rate of improvement as well as the real purpose of showing the advantages of this technique are the main goal of this themed project : " the lithostabilisation in layer of pavement: case of the urban road network of Sabangali (Djamena-Chad). "
The assays of identification (analysis of granulometry and limits of Atterberg) and the floor load capacity (Proctor modified and CBR) have been achieved on several combinations of slimy sand and crushed basalts from class 0/31,5 (10%, 15%, 20% and 30% of crushed basalts). The percentage of the fines (passing by the riddle of 0,08mm) lowered to 26, 43% to 15,80% in the slimy sand and to 20% in the mixture, thus bringing the index of plasticity from 10,45 to 8,30. An analysis of the evolution of the dry density of the consolidated slimy litho sand revealed that the required dry density is reached for an improvement of 20% of crushed basalt. The analysis of the variation of the floor load capacity of consolidated slimy sand geared to crushed basalt showed that it’s sufficient for an improvement of 20% of crushed basalt for the foundation layer.
The improvement of the slimy sand with crushed basalt to a rate of 20% with an energy of compaction to 95% of the MOP (Modified Optimal Proctor) abide by the conditions stated in the technical specifications; and has been kept therefore for the project. |
