Note générale :	The regional maximum flood (FMF) in an empirirically established upper limit of flood peaks that can be reasonably expected at a given site. The proposed method for the estimation of RMF is a revised and updated version of departemental technical report TR 105 published in 1980 the method is based on maximum flood speaks recorded since 19856 at more than 500 sites in Southern Africa. The relative flood peak magnitude is expressed by the Francou-roudier regional coefficient K. Eight maximum observed 3 days rainfall and catchement caracteristics. The perspective K enveloppe were established by taking onto account the number of and quality of data. The RMF can be instanly calculated in the geographic position of the site and its catchment areas are konow. Owing its consistency the RMF campares favourably with results obtained by other methods.
