Assessment of the agricultural potentiel of a project area is dependent on the availability of adequate climate data. Such data are an essential input for the determination of crop water requirements, on which the planning, design and operating of both rainfed and irrigated agriculture need to be based. At many promising but isolated project sites climatic data may be inavailable or inadequate, in which case new agrometeorological stations need to be established, or existing ones strengthened. This publication has been prepared to assist field workers in the establishment and strengthening of agrometéorological stations, and in assessment of the value and reliability of climtic data collected from existing stations. |
