Note générale : |
The Benue through, a rift in basement complex rocks, is filled with cretaceous sediments, mainly sandstone and shale. These sediments have been folded and partly stripped to leave a scries of basement complex and sedimentary plains, bordered by mainly basement complex hills and mountains. A few samll tertiary basalt flows are found in the centre and on the fringes of the valley. The soils of the spillplains areas comprise predominantly heavy clays in the spillplains and sandly or intermediate juvenile soils in the present and recent meander bells. The soils of the gently sloping upland plains are ferruginous tropical soils and on the steeper slopes lithsols or weakly developed soils. |
