"WMO technical note 84 "" A note on climatological normals"" recommends that, if avaibable record lengths of 40 years is sufficient to give a stable series for rainfall in tropical areas, that is provided there is no true climatic change, an a adequate normal. In the case of Gambia, nono of the existing meteorological station have records of this length. In addition, there is a marked climatic variation in the late 1960's and 1970's which may case bias in shorter terms normals. In view of the above and following the opinion of the technical note, the normals calculated are bases on the total available record of the stations. The tables present normals for one day, five days, ten days, and monthly intervals, for the wet season, may to november." |
