Abstract : This thesis concerns a study for the construction of a pumping well on the right bank of the Niger River near the town of Kabala, southern outskirts of the city of Bamako (Mali).
This study is part of the construction of the drinking water supply project of the city of Bamako from Kabala. The project aims to strengthen the drinking water supply infrastructure of the city of Bamako deficit. It includes a treatment plant, two water towers and a network of primary pipes and a dewatering station.
The pumping well is a 14.2m x 19.2m prismatic reinforced concrete structure with a height of 21m. It allows to pump in its final phase up to 604 800 m3 / day of raw water from two (2) water towers located at 685m in the bed of the Niger River, to supply the drinking water treatment plant.
The purpose of our thesis is to carry out additional technical studies on behalf of CABINET MERLIN. They will later validate or not, those performed by the executing company. These studies concern the design and sizing of the pumping well, a verification of the stability of the structure and the environmental and socio-economic impact related to the works executed in Kabala.
The stability of the structure is checked with the calculation of the uplift stability. Due to the high weight of the structure. The quotient P_ouvrage?(P_eau=1,43) which is higher than the safety coefficient set to 1.05 by the clauses of the specifications. The environmental and socio-economic impact study establishes measures to mitigate and relieve these impacts during the construction and operation phases.
The different parts of the pumping well are modeled on EFFEL STRUCTURE GRAITEC and ROBOT STUCTURAL ANALYSIS. These models established a ground stress of 2.27 bars which is lower than the admissible stress of the soil of 5 bars. With the exception of the concrete apron and the slab of the gutter, the calculation of the structural elements was done on Excel, according to the EUROCODE 2.
The project is funded by AFD (French Development Agency), the World Bank and the Malian State. The construction of the pumping pit is estimated at 438 million FCFA. |
