This paper deals with conditions of land utilization in a stretch of the Nile valley from the sixth cataract to the village of Abu Hamed, where the Nile begins its great bend south ward condition in this reach of the river are similar to those along most of the Nile in northern sudan, and it possible from an analysis of land use in this study region to make generalizations for the Nile from the Gezira to the shore of lake Nasser. Within the study region, there can be recognized some seven types of land utilization : settlemen, horticulture, cash crop grown on major pumps shemes, flush cultivation of dura millet, dates and wheat for local assumption, rainland dura cultivation and grazing on native vegetation. |
