Note générale :	It is wellknow that cowdung cakes are the most popular fuel in the middle and lower income groups of population in towns and almost all income groups of population in the villages. It is also wellknown that the heat efficience of dung cakes is very low (about 10 per cent as compared to 60 per cent for gas burners) and that the burning of dung cakes gives rise to a smoke that hurts the eyes of the people and darkens the vessels and walls of the kitchens. This paper describes several other tangible and intangible benefits in the utilisation of cowdung digesters.
