Note générale :	The paper reports the findings from a recent study of the decline of groundwater levels in the regolith aquifers of three areas in the Basement Complex in South western Nigeria. The primary objectives of the study are : (a) to establish that the grounwater level in the regalith of each study area is system atically declining and obtain an equation for predicting the end of the life span of the aquifer on the assumption that the grounwater level will continue to decline with times / (b) to identify the nature of human activities to which the groundwater level decline in each area could specially be attributed / and (c) to specify the likley delecterious consequences of the extinction of the aquifers and suggest possible measures to present such an undesirable situation.
