"Ethiopia is located in the central of eastern Africa equidistant between the equation and the tropic of cancer. It has been independent for a longer period than any african country, partly because of the deserts that border the redsea and the difficult mountainous terrain. These geographic features also retarded development of transportation, communications, and soil and land surveys. Although no complete land surveys have been made for Ethiopia, the total land area is estimated at 1,191,400km2. However, with an obscure origin, a soil, map of ethiopia was published as an integral part of the ""soil map of Africa"" D'Hoore (2) on a scale of 1 to 5 million." |
