Mention d'édition : Abiodun printing works LTD Editeur : Abiodun printing works LTD Année de publication : April 1969 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : CI-04504 Note générale : Seasonal pattern in soil water changes under various vegetation covers and bare follow was studied using a neutron meter during the 1967-8 season. At the begining of the growing season the soil moisture deficit ranged from 4.6 in. for bare follow to 10.7 in. for indigenous bush vegetation with crops occupying an intermediate position. Recharge of soil profile was gradual and was completed by the end of july when cumulative rainfall of the season reached 21 in. During the period of recharge, the amount and distribution of rainfall was such tht full potential evapo-transpiration rates were maintained. The surface run off during this period was negligible. The main growing season in August and September was characterised by surplus rainfall well in excess of evapo-transpiration demands, the surplus water was stored in the form of a raised water- table, but considerable amounts may be lost in surface run-off.
