Abstract : This work aims at improving knowledge on the hydrogeology of aquifers in the Taoudeni basin (Burkina Faso part). This knowledge will serve as a tool for better management of transboundary underground resources. The methodological approach adopted for this purpose consisted initially in elaborating a synthesis of existing information on the geology and hydrogeology of these aquifers. Then, the aquifer productivity and their hydrodynamic behavior were characterized respectively by using statistical tools and the Water Table Fluctuation method.
The synthesis was carried out by placing the results in a regional framework with a view to harmonizing the nomenclature. Thus, two large formations constitute the sedimentary basin of Taoudéni in its Burkinabe part, the Infracambrian (with nine formations) and the Continental Terminal. Hydrogeologically, these formations essentially composed by sandstone (and carbonate) constitute potential reservoir rocks over three-quarters (¾) of the thickness of the sedimentary series.
Statistical analysis has of a sample of 116 holes data confirmed the hypothesis that the Taoudeni Basin has a powerful aquifer system with the GGQ aquifer being the most productive (Q_exp=42,78 m^3?s;T=3,86×?10?^(-3) m^2?s). Temporal analysis of the piezometry revealed a general tendency to the elevation of the piezometric level over the entire basin and helped us to approach the recharge value by WTF method. Spatial analysis, through the piezometric map analysis and the horizontal exchanges characterization between aquifers, confirmed that the flow is bimodal with a component following the topography and another major and deeper component that can present a SW-NE regional gradient directed flows from the high reliefs to the Nasso springs. In the source area (Kou Basin), the average maximum recharge calculated by the WTF method varies between 35 and 48.70 mm per year for the 2012-2014 period. |
