Drought is becoming the routine in parts of Africa. Since 1968 and specially during the 1970's, the reality droughts achieved massive proportions. The problem of drought has been most spectaculary manifested in the region knouwn as the sahel, comprising large parts of Mali, burkina Faso etc. Separate drought problems have had a severe effect of Ethiopia. This report seeks to describe the situation in drought stricken regions of Africa as of june 1974. The immediate drought impact is described, as are relief programs underway. The report also suggests some of the monger terms needs of the affected countries, as well as steps which are being taken to paln better how these long-terms can be met. |
