The purpose of this study is to present a broad picture of the staple food crops of major importance in African agriculture ans diets. A hygs region, here called western tropical Africa, has been considered in order to bring out similarities and contrasts in the position of the staple food crops. Particular attention is given to the physical, economic, and secial factors which seem, most pertinent in explaning the considerable variation in the relative importance of the staple crops, not only as among territories but also as among smaller districts. |
