This general survey is the result of an inquiry into customary law pertaining to land tenure in the protectorate of the Northern territories of the Gold Coast undertaken between november, 1949 and june, 1950. The method adopted in the investigation is to peruse available books, essays and reports reffering to the subject matter, to peruse record books of the Regional Organisation, and record books of courts dealing with land cases, to gather information from available files in offices of the chief Regioanl officer of the Northern territories of government agents in the protectorate, and of the Department of Agriculture in Tamale, to interview local information by means of questions, which are circulated to certain Government officers and missionaries, and to study available comparative materiel. |
