This paper describes techniques for using existing aerial photographs to investigate land use charge in watersheds. A primary objective of the investigation is to measure the physical characteristics of historical land use patters that affect the hydrologic parameters of a watershed. Land use changes in two watersheds in western south carolina are examined. The North Tiger river watershed near spartanburg, South Carolina has experienced significant changes in agricultural land use over the past 26 years. The reedy river watershed within which most of the city of Greenville, South Carolina, is located has experienced rapid urbaization over the past 27 years. Six sets of existing aerial photographs taken at approximately five years intervals are use to delineate, classify, code, dand measure the areas of various land use classes in the two watershed. The data obtained from the aerial photographs on developmental changes in the two watersheds will be use along with stream flow and precipitation data.... |
