LTC Newsletter. Drought and the Development of sahelian economies: a case study of cause -Tuareg interdependance [texte imprimé] / Baier, S. ; King, D. J. . - University of Wisconsin . - University of Wisconsin, 1974. ISSN : CI-10020 With the return of relatively good rains in 1974 in the countries of sahelian west Africa development economists, aid agencies and local governement can look beyond the immediate problems of drought relief, they can begin to plan programs for reconstruction and development. Proposals for development policies have grown out of the debate of planners. This debate obscures a neglected issue of extreme importance in the formulation of policy for the future. The basics for survival in the Sahel is interdependence between desert and savanna, pastoral and arable, herder and farmer. A case study of the area which is now Niger and northen Nigeria demonstrates the sectors of the Housa and Tuareg's pre-colonial economies. Langues : Anglais (eng)
