Note générale :	Litter-fall measurements were made from september 1979 throught august 1980 in the Apalachicola river flood plain of Northwest Florida. The estimated Litter-Fall rate is 800 (g/m2)/yr. This rate would produce 3.6x105 t of organic material annually as litter fall in the 454 km2 flood plain. Decomposition and leaching processes break down leaf litter shortly after deposition. Inundation provides a potential transport mechanism for mobilization of large quantities of litter fall before the cycle repeats itself the following year. Principal conclusions resulting from the study of litter production and decomposition on the Apalachicola flood plain are presented in this paper.
