Note générale : |
This publication presents the basic methods of construction of lew cost waterproof membrane of which are to be used to line rainwater catchment areas or water storage. The merits and limitations of each method are discussed briefly. Methods presented include the compaction of appropriate soils, the addition of chemicals to soils to improve their stability and their capacity to repel water, the use of synthetic rubber, polyethylence and poly-vinylchloride (PVC) membranes, the use of various types of bitumen membranes, the use of gunite, the use of an expery resin and the construction of sheet metal catchments. The line stabilisation of soils is briefly discussed. The construction of small water storage tanks suitable for collecting run off from domestic rools is outlined. Finaly, several techniques of covering small reservoirs and of controlling evaporation from open water storage are presented. |
