Practical methods for measuring refrigerant mass distribution inside refrigeration system in Revue internationale du froid, vol 32, Issue 2 (2009)
[article]
Titre : Practical methods for measuring refrigerant mass distribution inside refrigeration system Titre original : Méthodes pratiques pour mesurer la masse du frigorigène à l'intérieur d'un système frigorifique Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : pp. 327-334 Langues : Anglais (eng) Français (fre) Catégories : 621.5 : Technique pneumatique, du vide, des basses températures Mots-clés : Système frigorifique système à compression Charge en frigorigène Index. décimale : 621.56 Technique des basses températures : réfrigération, pompe à chaleur Résumé : The purpose of this paper is to present methods for measuring refrigerant mass distribution inside a refrigeration system conveniently and accurately. The quasi on-line measurement method (QOMM) was presented for measuring refrigerant mass inside heat exchangers. Compared with the existing liquid nitrogen method (LNM), QOMM can avoid the refrigerant waste and accelerate the measurement process. For measuring refrigerant mass inside the compressor, QOMM was used together with the oil level observation method. The liquid level method (LLM) was used to measure the refrigerant mass inside the accumulator and the receiver. In order to verify the accuracy of the measurement methods, not only the deviation of the measurement method for refrigerant in single component was analyzed, but also the prediction of the total refrigerant charge in an air conditioner was verified. The results showed that the maximal prediction deviation of the refrigerant charge in the whole refrigeration system is 1.7%.

Titre : Prediction of frost deposition on a horizontal circular cylinder under natural convection using artificial neural networks Titre original : Prévision de la déposition de givre sur un cylindre horizontal sous convection naturelle à l'aide de réseaux neuronaux Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : pp. 560-566 Langues : Anglais (eng) Français (fre) Catégories : 621.5 : Technique pneumatique, du vide, des basses températures Mots-clés : Réseau neuronal; Givre; Convection libre; Cylindre horizontal Index. décimale : 621.56 Technique des basses températures : réfrigération, pompe à chaleur Résumé : In the present work Artificial Neural Network is used to predict frost thickness and density around a cooled horizontal circular cylinder having constant surface temperature under natural convection for different ambient conditions. The database for ANN generated from the experimental measurements. In the present work a multilayer perceptron network is used and it is found that the back-propagation algorithm with Levenberg–Marquardt learning rule is the best choice to estimate frost growth due to accurate and faster training procedure. Experimental measurements are used for training and testing the ANN approach and comparison is performed among the soft programming ANN and experimental measurements. It is observed that ANN soft programming code can be used more efficiently to determine frost thickness and density around a cold horizontal cylinder. Based on the developed ANN wide range of frost formation over various cylinder diameters are determined and presented for various conditions.

Pressure drop correlation for oil–refrigerant R134a mixture flashing flow in a small diameter tube in Revue internationale du froid, Vol 32, Issue 3 (2009)
[article]
Titre : Pressure drop correlation for oil–refrigerant R134a mixture flashing flow in a small diameter tube Titre original : Corrélation de la chute de pression d'un mélange de frigorigène R134a et d'huile en écoulement à l'intérieur d'un tube de faible diamètre Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : pp. 421-429 Langues : Anglais (eng) Français (fre) Catégories : 621.5 : Technique pneumatique, du vide, des basses températures Mots-clés : Système frigorifique Huile de synthèse Écoulement diphasique Corrélation Index. décimale : 621.56 Technique des basses températures : réfrigération, pompe à chaleur Résumé : This paper presents an experimental investigation of the ester oil ISO VG10/refrigerant R134a mixture flashing flow in a 6.0 m long, 3.22 mm ID tube, which is one of the primary steps towards the construction of a methodology for the study of the lubrication and gas leakage in refrigeration compressors. The phase change starts with solubility reduction of the refrigerant in the oil as the pressure decreases due to the friction forces. In this flashing flow the foam pattern is observed at the end of the tube as vapor quality reaches high values, and this is a particular phenomenon of this kind of mixture flow. In order to study this pressure drop, an experimental apparatus was designed to allow the measurement of both pressure and temperature profiles along the tube as well as the visualization of the flow patterns. Pressure and temperature distribution along the flow were measured for saturation pressure ranging from 450 to 650 kPa, mass flux ranging from about 2000 to 3000 kg/(m2s), temperatures around 303 K, and inlet refrigerant concentration varying between 0.2 and 0.4 kg ref/kg mixt. An available correlation proposed to predict the frictional pressure drop for a mixture composed by the mineral oil SUNISO 1GS and refrigerant R12 flowing in small diameter tubes yielded large deviations in predicting the ester oil and refrigerant R134a mixture flow. A new correlation has been proposed that fitted the experimental data with rms deviations of 24%.
