Migrations in africa have aroused much attention among africanists in recent years. Consideration has been primarily given to labor migrations which accompany the process of urbanization in modern africa, but historians and anthropologists have also shown interest in tracing past migrations. Few writers, however, have attemped to investigate the possible connections between past and present mobility form . The present paper intents to devote attention to this relatively neglected subjects by studying the relationship between the two. It will be restricted to an investigation of rural migration and will focus mainly on associated with tenant farming. The second most important form of mobility is the slavery during the colonization. The later, according to survey conducted by this paper included 4, 700 adult males whose main occupation was farming. They lived in about 160 camps scattered throughout the area. |
