Note générale :	One of the most important items included in the programme of the International Hydrological Decade is the problem of floods. The mains aspects of this problems are the determination of flood flows from rain and snowmelt and methods of estimating maximum flow. To evaluate the present status of knowledge in this field, an international symposium on floods and their computation is convened by UNESCO in Leningrad in August 1967 and organized in colloboration with other Institutions. The following main aspects of the problem are discussed : general problems of regulation of flood flow, the theory of formulation and method of computation of maximum discharge and other elements of hydrograph, rain and snowmelt flood/ some problems of investigation and evaluation of the role and significance of catchment area characteristics and climatic factors which are important for flood-flow formation.
