Abstract : The exacerbation of conflicts related to water is increasingly growing, which led IUCN to a diagnostic study on the eastern part of Burkina Faso. It identifies that two sub-basins are most at risk, because of their vulnerability to climate change: Sirba and Tapoa-Mekrou.
The IUCN motivated by the good governance of water resources, involved itself in this research to find the causes of those conflicts and promote integrated management of water resources in the downstream part of the basin in Sirba. This dissertation aims is to verify the existence of aridity and study its correlation with vegetation cover (NDVI). Our approach is to do spatial and temporal analysis for each climatic parameter (rain, temperature, potential evapotranspiration and aridity index of De Martonne) from 1980 to 2011 according to the standards of the World Meteorological Organization, on Sirba and all the country. Then, we analyzed the correlation between the evolution of the aridity index and NDVI from April 1998 to December 2011. It appears an aridity linked to the progressive degradation of vegetation cover. Also, we remark that decanals reductions of natural formation and dry areas show an important contribution of human work in this climatic aridification.
Finally, we propose prevention methods against future climatic variations and a study in order to know human activities contributions on climate aridification in the study area. |
