Abstract : Located in a hydro geologically difficult area the drinking water source for residents of Parakou and around is the dam of Okpara. In recent years, with the exponential growth of populations following urbanization, concerns arise as to the actual capacity of the reservoir to answer the high demand for water. In addition, complaints from consumers of the product of SONEB are often recorded with respect to the alteration of the sensory quality of the water supplied to the tap and the lack of tap water for hours. To understand this, we firstly carried out work in the laboratory to appreciate the physic- chemical and bacteriological aspect of the withholding water before, during and after the current treatment. Secondly we took part in bathymetry workshop under a project to quantify and assess the trophic status of the reservoir. The physic -chemical analyzes of June have shown that the indicator parameters quality limits according to WHO recommendations are followed for measurements made apart from turbidity, color, alkalinity and CO2. With regard to the bacteriology of 338 samples analyzed any treated samples of water were reported polluted. However 151 samples are "healthy", 71 "suspicious" and 54 "dirty" In addition the residual chlorine proving the treatment efficiency of disinfection, and it is often not found at the required level in the content of the customers’ tap. The bathymetry of the reservoir revealed that there are is 8.2 million m3 amount of water available which ensures the supply of water to strengthen the system of AEP in Parakou till 2025. |
