Abstract : The treatment of biomedical waste remains a problem in developing countries such as Burkina Faso. The general objective of this study is to contribute to the improvement of the biomedical waste management of Schiphra Protestant Hospital. To achieve this objective, the inventory has been carried out through the documentary review, surveys, interviews and visits and observations. Then we carried out a biomedical waste characterization with reference to the classification of the World Health Organization. A technical and financial study of the determination of biomedical waste treatment by incineration was carried out according to the scenario method, which consists of proposing two alternatives and choosing a basic technical-financial basis. The environmental study highlights the impacts of the project on the environment. Strengths and weaknesses were noted in the management of biomedical waste. The characterization of the waste gives a total production of 142 kg / day of biomedical waste, ie 72% of garbage-like waste, 22.38% of hazardous health care waste, 4.02% of anatomical waste, 1 , 64% sharp / sharp and 3.5E-04% pharmaceutical waste. The proportion of hazardous waste equivalent to the proportion of waste to be incinerated is 28% of the total waste output of Protestant Schiphra Hospital. This study also allowed the determination of a treatment of biomedical waste by incineration by favoring the industrial incinerator on the basis of the technical and financial factor. Thus, the project will require a budget of 44, 025, 925CFAF. The interest of this study is to serve as a guide to the Protestant Hospital Schiphra for the planning and management of activities related to biomedical waste management. |
