Abstract : This paper presents the results of technical studies for the rehabilitation of the Anékar agro-pastoral dam in the commune of Affala, Tahoua Region in Niger. This dam rehabilitation project is part of the fight against food insecurity and climate resilience. The Anékar dam is fed by a watershed of 826.12 km2 draining in a dry ten-year period 7,882,262.35 m3 of water per year. This liquid input allows the filling of the dam basin and the satisfaction of water needs estimated at 6,400,000 m3. The Anékar dam was built in 2018 and following an exceptional flood in 2019, the dike and the spillway were severely degraded and the dissipation basin was washed away by water. The objective of the present study is to carry out a technical study for the rehabilitation of the dam in order to enable the populations to restart socio-economic activities. In order to do so, a diagnosis of the dam followed by the baseline studies have allowed to resize the dam, together with an execution plan and an environmental and social management plan. The Anékar dam before rehabilitation is a dyke made of homogeneous compacted earth, 693 m long including the spillway and a crest width of 5 m and a parapet wall of 0.5 m. The dyke height is 9.7m, the slopes of the upstream and downstream embankments are 1V/3H and 1V/2.5H respectively. The lateral spillway, along 80m is made of reinforced concrete walls. At the end of this rehabilitation study, the height of the embankment will be maintained and the construction of a heavy weir has been retained. The new dike will be made of homogeneous earth with a length also of 693 m and a height of 9.7 m and a crest width of 5 m set at elevation 372.7 m. The slopes of the upstream and downstream embankments are respectively 1V/2.75H and 1V/2.25H. The spillway remains in lateral position and will be extended over a length of 100 m, with a type II dissipation basin downstream of the spillway. The water intake will be rehabilitated, with a cast iron pipe with a diameter of 600mm. The cost of the project is 642,603,050 FCFA. |
